Discussion

Requiring all authorized applications to be in an application allow list prevents the execution of any applications (e.g., unauthorized, malicious) that are not part of the allow list. Failure to configure an application allow list properly could allow unauthorized and malicious applications to be downloaded, installed, and executed on the mobile device, causing a compromise of DoW data accessible by these applications. Applications with the listed characteristics have features that can cause the compromise of sensitive DoW data or have features with no known application in the DoW environment. Application note: The application allow list, in addition to controlling the installation of applications on the mobile device (MD), must control user access/execution of all core and preinstalled applications, or the MD must provide an alternate method of restricting user access/execution to core and preinstalled applications. Core application: Any application integrated into the operating system (OS) by the OS or MD vendors. Preinstalled application: Additional noncore applications included in the OS build by the OS vendor, MD vendor, or wireless carrier. SFR ID: FMT_SMF_EXT.1.1 #8

Check Content

Review configuration settings to confirm that Siri is disabled on the Lock screen.

This check procedure is performed on both the MDM server and the iPhone and iPad.

Note: If an organization has multiple configuration profiles, the check procedure must be performed on the relevant configuration profiles applicable to the scope of the review.

In the MDM server, verify in the Declarative Device Management (DDM) configuration "Siri Settings" that "Allow while locked" has been set to "No".

On the iPhone and iPad:
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap "General".
3. Tap "VPN & Device Management".
4. Tap the Configuration Profile from the MDM server containing the policy.
5. Tap "Configurations" and then "Siri Settings".
6. Verify "Allow while locked" is listed and set to "No".

If in the MDM server or iPhone/iPad the DDM configuration "Siri Settings", "Allow while locked" has not been set to "No", this is a finding.

Fix Text

Install a DDM profile to disable Siri while the device is locked.

In the MDM server, in the DDM configuration "Siri Settings", set "Allow while locked" to "No".
