Discussion

By limiting the number of failed login attempts, the risk of unauthorized system access via user password guessing, otherwise known as brute-forcing, is reduced.

Check Content

1. In the Web UI, navigate to Authentication >> Auth Servers >> Administrators.
2. Under the section "Account Lockout", verify "Enable Account Lockout for users" is checked.
3. Verify "Maximum wrong password attempts" is set to "3".
4. Verify "Account Lockout Period in Minutes" is set to "15".

If account lockout is not configured to enforce the limit of three consecutive invalid logon attempts, after which time it must block any login attempt for 15 minutes, this is a finding.
