Without generating audit records that are specific to the security and mission needs of the organization, it would be difficult to establish, correlate, and investigate the events relating to an incident or identify those responsible for one. Cisco SNA Appliances provide Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment (AIDE) which is a host baselining system that detects modifications of critical files on a system. When it is enabled, AIDE runs an audit of the current system once a day. It compares the hash sum, permissions, and time accessed of each monitored file on the current file system against the values stored in the appliance database.
Verify the Cisco SNA appliance generates audit records for modification of critical system files. Navigate to SNA Dashboard >> Configure >> Central Management >> Actions... >> Support >> Audit Logs. Verify AIDE logs are being produced. If the network device does not generate audit records for modification of critical system files, this is a finding.
Configure the Cisco SNA appliance to generate audit records for modification of critical system files. Navigate to SNA Dashboard >> Configure >> Central Management >> (Appliance) Actions >> Edit Appliance Configuration >> Appliance Tab. Enable AIDE checkbox. Click "Apply Settings".
